Welcome to HIV: Uncovered.
This is a documentary about the people who are fighting the virus; doctors, scientists, organizations, and the individuals all around the world who are living with the infection today (since the 1980s).
Since HIV does not differentiate between race, sexuality, nationality or age, neither should we.
We have all become involved and united globally in using our knowledge to combat this virus, although mainly on a somatic level. Somehow, we often seem to forget the very important psychological battle in the war against HIV: the battle against stigma.
According to the World Health Organization there were approximately 36.9 million people worldwide living with HIV/AIDS at the end of 2014. Many of them hide from society, scared because they do not know about the latest scientific advances made towards wiping out this epidemic, and because stigma, in many cases, keeps them from searching this knowledge.
This documentary aims to show you the truth about HIV, the latest treatments and the path towards finding a cure.
We will follow people living with stigma all the way from the USA to Kenya, from Sweden to Thailand. We will take a look at the global perspective when it comes to both the stigma, the scientific research and the experience of HIV. This documentary shall be a tribute to all the people who have worked hard to get us where we are today, so close to eradicating this virus.
Medicine is already treating HIV. This documentary will treat the stigma.
